William Hardwick Hall was my dad.
He died too soon at 68 after a life’s work spanning nearly five decades, producing beautiful jewellery that is now out in the world. Known as Bill, he was an introvert, a gifted designer and silversmith and a lovely man.
THIS IS AN ARCHIVE of his work. It’s purpose is twofold; so that when people find pieces he created as they come up for auction online or appear in salesrooms and they search the Edinburgh Assay Office database when they find his mark, they will know a little more about him and discover a record of his work for comparison. In recent years we’ve found a few pieces on ebay incorrectly contributed to him as result of misreading the Assay Office Hallmark.
The other purpose for this archive is that we hope to locate more of his work and engage others to help us build content with more images of his work. There will be many families around the world who own his jewellery and they too can find out more about Bill, here. This site has most of the images my family possess of my parent’s work but they only represent a fraction of the work he produced over his career.
I have curated the image archive into decades as best I can without having the pieces to hand to look up the date marks myself. If you are here because you have come across his work and are able to send a good image as well as a little about how you came to have it, please get in touch.
